With words by Jennifer Wallis, who was to become John Barton Armstrong’s wife, this is a deeply moving setting of a poem written out of a very personal tragedy. The score is dated 21st June 1978.
The recording was found amongst the papers of John Barton Armstrong but as yet it has not been possible to identify, and thus credit, the performers. Any information regarding this would be gratefully received by the publishers.
DAWN
Daily the dawn breaks,
Daily my heart wakes
To this heavy weight Of loss and sorrow
Fearing the morrow.
Though birds at daybreak sing with joy,
My grief they don’t destroy………..
